COMPOSITION PROJECT
Our final unit project will be an original composition for piano with an electronic background written in Soundation. We will listen to each others' work through Soundation.
Instructions for 8A 04/23
Here are the project guidelines. You are ultimately responsible for checking your work to make sure it follows the guidelines.
Here is the grading rubric (subject to change).
Watch my description of the project here on the link to Google Drive.
See my TUTORIALS on the project, Finale, and Soundation.
You are encouraged to plan your melody on music paper before typing your music into Finale. You
may use the keyboard to hear how your melody sounds in combination with writing out ideas on staff
paper.
Project timeline - tells you when portions of your work should be done! This is also posted on the walls of the computer lab.
DUE DATES:
If you meet on a B day, your project is due on Thursday, 04/24.
If you meet on an A day, your project is due on Friday, 04/25.
You will NOT have to perform your melodies, but you will all be playing them for the class.
Using the keyboard
You may play your keyboard directly into a Finale file, but Finale DOES NOT recognize note
duration. If you play a melody into Finale, it will detect only the pitches you are using- it will not
transcribe the pitches in rhythm for you. It will input the pitches in the note duration selected in the
toolbox. See what I mean here. (A "qwerty keyboard" is the computer keyboard with letters and
numbers; the "MIDI keyboard" is the piano.)
